I work in the San Francisco Bay Area as a licensed clinical psychologist with broad-based training in an area of health psychology called behavioral medicine. I received my doctorate from West Virginia University and attended an APA-accredited clinical internship program at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. I completed postdoctoral training at the University of California, San Diego and the VA San Diego Health Care System with a focus in behavioral medicine. Since 2005, I have provided individual and group therapy at the San Mateo Medical Center, VA Palo Alto Health Care System, San Francisco General Hospital, Behavioral Medicine Clinic of the Peninsula, and Stanford University Medical Center. I chose to leave my position at Stanford Pain Management Center in 2012 to focus exclusively on my private practice, family, and life balance.
My specializations include psychological and behavioral approaches to the management of chronic pain, stress, depression, anxiety, and coping with chronic medical problems such as HIV/AIDS. Using cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness-based approaches, I work with patients to cope with and manage their problems to the best of their ability. Through education, values identification and clarification, goal development, and the application of skills learned in therapy, patients are supported in making choices that will help them reach their goals to live effectively and improve their quality of life.
The treatment I offer is designed to be brief, problem-focused, and goal oriented. Following a 90-minute assessment session you will receive assessment feedback and a detailed treatment plan. Your treatment plan is individualized based on your assessment to maximize your success in therapy. The sessions that follow will be used to work towards your established goals. You have a very active role in treatment which will be emphasized throughout the process.
Behavioral Health Psychology Services provides Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to adults as well as consultation to health care systems in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Individual and small group therapy is offered to patients with an array of medical and psychological problems.
Consultation for health care systems is designed to assess ways to improve the health care delivery of effective behavioral treatments.
I am a behavioral health care provider who strongly believes in living a well balanced, value directed life. This means living on purpose and doing what is most important in different life domains.
My career practices are a reflection of the choices that I make in all areas of my life. Having learned to appreciate the many benefits of exercise as a young adult, for example, I continue to maintain a regular exercise regimen that involves strength and cardiovascular conditioning through weight lifting and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Nutritional balance and adequate rest are integral parts of this regimen.
